Gumbo Fest

In 2022, the City of Gulfport and the Gulfport Main Street Association embarked on a flavorful journey, launching the inaugural Gumbo Fest with the support of Mitchell Distributing and Chandeleur Island Brewing Company.

Echoing Mayor Billy Hewes' sentiment, the Coastal Mississippi region is a melting pot, much like a pot of gumbo. Each community brings unique ingredients to the table. Yet, we unite as "One Coast" Gumbo Fest was born from this spirit of unity, aiming to celebrate our shared culture and provide unparalleled entertainment for families.

Held at the iconic Centennial Plaza, the 48-acre resort complex that once served as a military installation, Gumbo Fest transformed this traveler's paradise into a hub of culinary and artistic delight. Our first year saw a flurry of activities, from the Stir Da Roux Gumbo Cook-Off, where local chefs battled for the title "Best Overall Gumbo," to the spirited Mayor’s Cup competition. The Coast's age-old debate about whose mama's gumbo reigns supreme found its battleground at our People’s Choice Tasting, allowing everyone to sample and cast their vote.

Attendees reveled in a day of shopping for exquisite art pieces from regional artists, swaying to the soulful tunes of Grammy-winner Cedric Burnside, Amanda Shaw, Bon Bon Vivant, and Blackwater Brass, and indulging in delicacies from the Coast's top food vendors.

As we gear up for Gumbo Fest 2023, we reflect on our successful debut and promise an even more vibrant celebration. We've infused the essence of last year with fresh excitement. Stay tuned for what's cooking this year!
